Improving reliability engineering in product development based on design theory: the case of FMEA in the semiconductor industry

In industry, the failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) methodology is one of main tools used for reliability management in product design development. However, academic literature highlights several shortcomings FMEA methodology. Therefore, purposes this paper are weaknesses FMEA, improvement method, implementation a new able to support quality more efficient way. Motivated by these objectives, formal proposed extending classic through C-K theory. To test effectiveness approach analyze acceptance method users, case study conducted STMicroelectronics, European leaders semiconductor industry.
